Facebook Limits Event Invites

Facebook Limits Event InvitesThe latest Facebook buzz centers around their flimsy event application. Apparently the powers that be felt it necessary to impose restrictions on the amount of people you can invite to an event. According to the latest update from their help center dated April 9, 2013; “You can only send 100 invites at a time, and each event may only have 300 pending invites total.

This pretty much puts a firm clamp on sending out mass invites to people who might be interested in attending your event. Bands, DJ’s, promoters, and entertainment venues will be forced to find another way to reach their fans. All in their quest to curb spam on the largest social network. So much for being social.

For now a work around might be the only way to achieve the same results you were getting before. Create event, use chrome extension or Firefox add-on/grease monkey script to do the clicking for you. Now you might actually be forced to segment your friends into manageable lists, then create multiple events for each event you are planning, then only send invites to the 100 or so people you have put into their own special list. What a PITA

Makes me wonder if they are imposing this restriction on page shares and recommendations as well, or if this affects their Event API as well. Thankfully I did not invest heavy development into building a mass invite app that works via the API.

Now onto building the social event promoter for the new standards imposed in 2013.

Craigslist GhostingHow to prevent Ghosting of your ads.

If you’re like me and can drive traffic from craigslist.org to your own site, you have probably succumbed to the dreaded Craigslist Ghosting. This article should catch your attention and provide you with some insight into how craigslist screens your ads. When you are posting ads on CL, you might be posting ads in services sections or casual encounters or the jobs sections. If you have posted an ad, only to not see the ad actually go live, you have probably been ghosted.

Craigslist Ghosting works like this, you post your ad making sure you write good copy that is not a duplicate of another ad, you publish the ad, you get the email notice that the ad has been accepting and should be live. Yet the ad never sees the browsing page or front page of that category. You ad is like a ghost because no one can see it. Hence the term ghosting.

TinyMCE IE9 Error Object doesn’t support property or method ‘recalc

This Error message might show up in your developer mode window.

Object doesn’t support property or method ‘recalc.

I am seeing this when attempting to access forms using TinyMCE Editor which is causing user experience issues. Users that are accessing our site via the new IE9 browser, have been unable to post forms. Placing the browser into compatibility mode resolves the errors. We have updated TinyMCE however, the issue remained. Since we are not quite into the realm of html 5 on our site. We are adding the following meta tag per Microsoft’s own Defining Document Compatibility. Just simply add the following line to your header section.

<meta http-equiv=X-UA-Compatiblecontent=IE=EmulateIE7″ > This will force IE9 into compatibility mode.
