If your like me and have been working on several blogs, or domains trying to build traffic through keyword writing. Then this might be a helpful read for you. I have done a considerable amount of research, and feel that I have a pretty good grasp on what and where people click. The three highest performing ad units are the 336×280 large rectangle, the 300×250 inline rectangle and 160×600 wide skyscraper. Consider this when selecting which theme you are going to use. Be unique if you can, customize the theme so it stands apart from the rest.
The most successful link color is blue. This has to do with the roots of the Internet where all web sites used blue hyperlinks. If you use other link colors make Adsense links the same as your normal links.
As a general rule blend (no border, same background) your Adsense units if your website has light colors and contrast (border, contrasting background) the units if you are using a dark color scheme.
Ads in context should not have borders, while ad units in sidebars can use borders to attract the eye.
Test, test and test some more. Each website is different so test with different colors and formats and keep track of the results to help fine tune your Adsense earnings.

Hey Tampa! Is SEO working for your local business?
Last Updated on Wednesday, 4 August 2010 03:39 Written by Mike Wednesday, 17 June 2009 01:31
Are you a local business? By local I mean does the bulk of your sales come from face to face dealings with John or Jane Public? If you answered yes this article is for you.
More and more local business sales are triggered by consumers researching through Google and Yahoo, looking to purchase specific products and services. Consumers are using search engines to look for things that you sell or the services that you offer. They are looking at where to buy locally, who’s selling it, how much does it cost? If you’re not targeting your potential audience in a specific local market, how are those consumers going to find you? The answer is simple and disappointing, they’re not going to.
As with any online project, there are several factors to consider in a local SEO/PPC campaign. Strategy helps define the businesses goals, it also will help determine from an SEO experts POV, whether or not you can actually benefit from our efforts. There are some businesses that will not benefit from SEO expenditures. Let me tell you that I will be the first to point this out to you if you are one of them. I will not waste my time or yours, trying to convince you that your toothbrush recycling business will get a million visitors in a week. I’d prefer to work on a realistic project where both parties are happy with the outcome.
Some businesses may approach an SEO expert with unrealistic expectations. Many factors determine what will work and what will not. Keyword & Competition analysis, are two very important components. Once you have a set of keywords and phrases to target, site analysis and optimization are next. From domain name to meta tags and page titles are analyzed and structured according to your targeted keywords and phrases.
Do you have a product that will benefit from a PPC (pay per click) campaign? Are you the only person in town selling it? PPC is a great tool to bring in laser targeted traffic to your site. One of our recent clients immediately saw results from a PPC campaign targeted locally, for a very specific acne treatment. Sales of that specific product jumped over %800 in less than 2 weeks. Not only can PPC drive sales, it can also help spread word of mouth.
I am Michael Quale. I am available to consult with local tampa bay area businesses for SEO, and PPC campaigns. I barter, I tweet, I believe in the power of social media and local community. I have references and more! If you have any questions or would like to talk further I can be reached via email: mike at michaelquale dot com.
Adsense keywords what are they really worth?
Last Updated on Monday, 15 June 2009 01:56 Written by Mike Sunday, 14 June 2009 10:35
A very subjective topic. Adsense keywords all vary tremendously. Depending on niche, keyword, or phrase they can vary from a few pennies to $10 or $20 or more. Generally speaking, adsense keywords are valued based on their popularity. The more competition for the keyword, the more it will cost advertisers to ‘place’ the adword ad.
The flip side of that adword ad. Is your adsense account. You will earn around half of the advertisers cost for that click. So it would make sense for a blogger or webmaster to target the valuable and profitable keywords.
The next step in making good $$$ with adsense? CTR or click through ratio. This is based on how many ads are shown in proportion to how many clicks you log.
On the forums I have been frequenting CTR of %2.5 to %5 or more are considered excellent. Good writing, popular topics, correct adsense placement on page and proper SEO efforts can get you there.
Stay tuned for more on this Adsense experiment.
