I struggled with the instructions, push with thumb just was not cutting it. This might be a little tough to pop the first few times.
What I had to do was this;
- Place phone in face down in the palm of your left hand with the USB jack pointing towards you.
- Place your right palm on the back side of the phone just above the USB jack.
- Press your hands together and try to push the back away from the USB jack.
The first time it popped off with almost a click feel. Seems like it will get easier over time as well, once you know how to actually get the damn thing off.

Fantastic! I was about ready to jump!
Best. Instructions. Ever.
Thank You so much. There was two of us and the instruction in the book were all wrong. This is the only way to get it off. It was so easy after following you…….Thanks again.
thanks!
On the road, this was a great help. Thank you…
I am on the road and i just have to say, THANK YOU!, I DONT KNOW YOU AND I LOVE YOU ALREADY!! I was so ready to break this damn phone until i saw your site.
I couldn't do it! I ended up using a sharp paring knife to pry it open, starting near the jack end. Even when I had 85% of it off I still had to pull up hard to get the top off. A knife is never the way to go but that's all I could do to get the cover off.
Ditto, to what everyone else said:)
Thank you!!!!!
Absolutely PERFECT! You should be a phone manual writer and demonstrator. Thanks a ton!
THANK YOU!!! From the instructions my fingernails were not strong enough. My husband's biceps were not strong enough. These were the only instructions that helped to remove the back.
omg. thanks!
Your instructions and picture helped! All other sites failed to do so.
Brenda
THANKS! this worked first time

Great Explanation. I wanted to bust the phone…. Mine keeps loosing connection to the web and I heard the way to correct it is to take the battery out…any other suggestions?
You Rock!!
THANK YOU SOO MUCH!
Forgot my charger at a friend's place and my phone died; knew it would charge with my universal battery charger if I could only get the phone open! Worked like a charm!
OMG! Thank you!
I finally popped it off ..ughh idk why it takes so long .
OMG!!!! Thank you so much!!!!! My phone froze and had this hazard sign on it and I could not, for the life of me figure out where the battery opening was or how to get it off to restart it!! I followed your directions and it was off in 5 secs. lol Your directions were better then the htc hero website manual.
Thanks! THIS help really WORKED!!!
others didn't help. You are declared a Winner by me!!
