MyCleanPC.com review…SCAM ALERT – look out.

Watch out for this one readers. MyCleanPC.com has been advertised in several prominent media outlets( I just watched this on comedy central) as being able to fix any pc. My Clean PC’s software can “make a 7 year old computer amazingly fast, even faster than a new computer!”. This is just plain CRAP. Closer inspection reveals that this web site is owned by a company called Cyber Defender ( a known spyware company )

Do yourself a favor and stay far far away from this product or any product that makes such ridiculous claims. If you are experiencing a slow computer, download malwarebytes and super antispyware. Update them both and let them run…preferably in Safe Mode. Another good program worth mentioning is the venerable and most awesome Spybot search and destroy available form safer-networking.org or this direct link.

Be warned the WOT and McAfee both list mycleanpc.com finallyfast.com and doublemyspeed.com as severe threats.

Have an experience you would like to share…leave a comment so other’s may avoid these mycleanpc.com types of traps.

Make Sure you share this with your social networks, get the word out. This geek recommends AVG Internet Security.

Not only did I buy into this, I was warned that my computer would crash if I didn’t spend more money to have viruses removed after the initial cleaning. I refused and, indeed, my computer crashed. I have a new one and am left with the suspicion that the my clean pc analyst did something to my computer to cause the crash. There is a class action suit but it will only get me a refund for the service, not for the computer I had to replace.

    • Edward Crabtree

Why did you replace the computer?  Any issues caused by this dishonest malware program would have caused logical (software) damage, nothing could have harmed your computer’s components.  An operating system reinstall would have been the worst of your problems.

  • Cut2thechase

Sorry, but if you can’t maintain (not “fix”, there is a difference) your own PC, you shouldn’y own one. These companies attract the type of users who should really stay away from computers anyway…

    • Id1brok

Are’t we the superior one then? BY Jove, I bet the mirror is really grateful every time you shave.
People get stung- that is why crook companies exist. and a smug reply like yours really does not help. Instead all users should be campaigning for more honest advertising. The “Scan shows 995 problems on your computer register to fix them” type download should be banned and it should be a contractual term to show the full price of any program on the  page that invites the download. That way, 75% of scam advertisers would disappear.  It is easy to get crap like Babylon without even realising it, and it is the same with all these so-called PC protection scams.

    • Bluelittlefroggy

Cut2thechase: You really are a jerk arent you? In response to this and your other post to the person who asked about other sites I say this: just shut up if you have nothing helpful to add. People want help not your stupid dumba** comments. Heres some advice for you: GROW UP!

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/David-Dzurilla/613410704 David Dzurilla

so true.  for those people who say Mac’s don’t “have” viruses, PC’s don’t either.  it’s the ignorant user who goes to every web site.
Basic Rule: if you go to websites like Faceook, Google, YouTube, Twitter, you will not get a virus.  If you are looking for Porn, File Sharing, or illegal activities, you may get a virus.  Sounds simple.  With modern technology, it is so easy to just block anything.  IE9 does it automaticlly, and Windows 7 has 4 levels of OS protection, and a user account like an adminitrator, with restricted system modifications.  Common sense is really the best virus protection.

      • Keng Her

I just simply love your last sentence.
Mind if I use it in a quote for an argumentative essay?

      • Mike

Adminitrator? WTF is that pray tell. BTW those websites you mention are all in the top 10 of most popular websites. You know why? because people VISIT them and do not get virii. You should really watch what you say on a TECH blog, when it is painfully obvious you have NO clue as to what you just said.

  • Dale Powell

It seems that no matter hard we try, we just can’t warn everybody about this “borderline scam”. None of their software under the CyberDefender line of products has any 3rd party certifications from companies such as ICSA Labs, Virus Bulletin, AV Comparatives, and on and on. I already gave my 2 cents some time ago at http://spywarepreventionguy.com/mycleanpc-review/.

    MyCleanPC is great!
    I just received 89 popups!
Thats twice more than SmileyCentral and Bullshit combined!
I love spyware! It is great.
    #sarcasm.
Thanks for taking the time to take a look at this scam.

    • steve

Glad to see you still have your sense of humor after gettin a hosin Joey :-)

  • Macchi222

I agree wit hit being  a scam, totally! I’ve never tried it so I don’t know first-hand. My information comes from my gut.

  • Guest

anyone who has any more than a base knowledge of computers would realize that the signs they listed on the commercial (blue screens, errors, and slowness) are all signs of RAM issues, most of which can be helped by using CCleaner or another registry cleaner, tho MalwareBytes and (personally) Spybot S&D are extremely helpful to use, as well as a defragmenting program (there are a lot of scams on these too be careful), good article, glad ppl out there are willing to help.

  • Richard

I wish I had seen this before purchasing their program, it cost me $230.00 and my personal info to be threatened……beware my friends, stay clear of these crooks!!!

    • Ginger

I wish I had read this before.  Originally they (My Clean PC) wanted $600 to improve my two computers then reduced it to $309.  My bank put a hold on the fees charged to my debit card because of the scam they presented.  God, will I ever learn now that I am 75.

  • JohnRN

    ]
[LOKIJUGT FRDESWZAQ +I get by fameously with Avast! anti-virus {smooch!}, Comodo Firewall {dub smooch!}, SuperAntiSpyware, Spybot S&D (I’ve used S’bot S&D. Remember to Immunize, but don’t run the “TeaTimer” app if you run Spyware Blaster; as you should!! (You should always use a real-time spyware filter, even Windows has Defender, -remember to turn it OFF when using Spyware Blaster:) Even though Defender couldn’t even find a tracking cookie (because it sucks) But it will conflict with Spyware Blaster, so off with it! And finally, Ccleaner is great for cleaning out the crap you have from the internet, games, and just using Windows generates mountians of garbage that can be gone with this handy program! Carry on!

I am going to laugh if I bought a new pc downloaded this and it says I have errors.

Its a huge SCAM. They charge you $29.99 to show you your computers errors then want you to pay $160.00 a year to fix them.
They dont tell you any of this on there website.

  • Totograpa

Thank you very much…really appreciated your warning….

  • Ndrjan

This is a scam and I am so disapointed with myself. First time service they give you a number. I bought the service for
three computers. After the first service I was impressed. The second computer crashed after being repaired. I could not get
in touch with them. I waited 7 seven hours and 4 four hours for service and never provided. The third computer was never
cleaned. This is for sucker like myself….please be smarter…..and I am not stupid…

  • GrowlWoofBark

This is great info, I wish these sites were not allowed to exist. But just a little note….on this page, right now as I read this article….there is an ad to the left for a free scan of your registry…”click here to run a free scan” it says…..why would you allow this ad on your page?

    • Max

That is a google ad. Google decides to advertise in a “relevant” way so they put advertisments on your page that relate to the content of that page.

    • Chillywillyfan

You don’t use an ad blocker?

  • Guest

    called it.

I downloaded one of those three heavily media advertised programs briefly reviewed in your Feb. 3, 2010 review. I don’t remember exactly which one it was, because I got so burned by the experience it wiped my memory. What I DO remember,
however, is taking my computer to my guru’s shop 23 miles away, where it sat for a week until he had a chance to wipe
the disk and reload XP. So it took a few bucks and a week of not having my computer. And another 23 mile trip back to pick it
up from the shop. Fortunately I had saved salient data on a stick, so the recovery was very largely successful. I had Malware
Bytes, Spybot and AVG on the computer prior to the devastation, and they didn’t catch the problem before it became an “infection”. I will never download any computer “protection” again from an unknown advertiser. And somebody should go
    after these high-tech pirates.

    • Rossettidavid

I just got them, paying $39.95.they want to charge me 300 dollars to clean up my PC. How can I get this out of my system.

  • BSR

Switch to a Linux Mint based computer and you will never go back to PC!

    • Edward Crabtree

      How about…no.

    • Dr Game93

… If you use linux on any computer other than a Mac, its still a PC. I use ubuntu btw.

  • Richard

Well I do believe it’s just a little too late for me, my impatients cost me $229.95 and still running slow, so take my word for it people, MyCleanPc is a definate ripoff!!!, I hate the fact that they got into my personal info……….

  • Jgabriel

    Type your comment here.
We got scammed. Fell for the T.V. advertisement, called the company and the salesman talked us in to trying it. Charged us $400 and it didn’t work. We were told if we we’re satisfied we would get our money back. Hasn’t happened. Don’t buy it. Tell everyone you know.

    • Jddenn

you actually paid 400 bucks to these crooks??must have had 1 hell of a sales pitch!

  • steve

thanks geek techits always helpful to have a soldier aginst these predetors.ive heard advanced system care is the frishizzle.

    • Cut2thechase

Based on your writing ability, or lack thereof, I don’t believe that I would trust anything you recommended…Or are you ASKING for advice? Not sure you could understand it enough yo follow it…

  • Pyite3265

TOTAL SCAM!!!!! SERIOUSLY??? This site is going to clean and speed up my PC? Forget about it. Download MBAM.exe (Malware bytes anti-malware) and AVG free edition. Update both databases often and perform full scans. Do NOT associate with known spyware dealers!!! You’d be single-handedly destroying your PC.

  • Jseger9000

In addition to MalwareBytes and Spybot, you should check out Piriform’s excellent (and free) CCleaner and Defraggler. CCleaner in particular will clean up your registry and speed up older PCs a bit. Google ‘em instead of taking my word for it.

  • Sstarjenson

Thanks for telling me. I have McAfee and now I know which ones NOT to use. Thanks, I really appreciate it.

  • Thailey7608

wow so glad i was just about 2 purchase this i did the scan and they said 700 errors and when i called to tlk to them about a price they said $299.00 i see on here ppl said $29.00…wwoooww they almost had me

  • Mike Kay

I USE A TOSHIBA TECRA 8200 WITH XP. IT HAS 256 MB OF RAM.EVENTUALLY IT WAS A REAL NIGHTMARE TO USE CONSTANTLY FREEZING. IT TOOK FOREVER TO DOWNLOAD ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING INCLUDING MY OUTLOOK EXPRESS..I WOULD GET MESSAGES FROM MICROSOFT INFORMING ME THAT MY MEMORY WAS INSUFFICIENT (HELLO!!!!!!REALLY!!!!!!!)) I BOUGHT THE PROGRAM IN DESPERATION. ON THE FIRST SCAN IT FOUND 1504 ERRORS(THAT’S RIGHT….1504!!!) WHICH I DELETED…IT’S WORKED LIKE A CHARM EVER SINCE.FOR ME, IT TURNED OUT GREAT.

    GEEK IN

    • Super User

SPAMMER…….. must work for cyberdefender I think…. LOL

    • Max

      Lets see….

“took forever to download anything” <— 90% of the time that's your internet connection speed and nothing else. Rest of the time it's your roommates downloading porn.

"constantly freezing" <— could be many things but based on your "testimony" probably a memory issue. Buy more RAM. It's cheap, you can install it yourself.

But honetly, you should get a job with a more reputable company.

  • John

There are lots of programs out there to scan your PC and they all say you’ve got thousands of errors just to get $$$$$$$$$$$.

    • Jeb_stuart_duke

I know someone who did install mycleanpc software on a brand new and clean installation of Windows XP Professional just to see what would happen. The software found OVER 500 problems and also said to “fix” the problems it will cost $29.95 etc.

  • Kmcoreas

Thanks for letting us know…thank God i checked your review before i downloaded it…i knew it was too good to be true

  • Vicki

Hello, I just ordered the MyCleanPC for $29.95. It said 71 dollars. I would like to cancel this order before it gets processed. Your attention to this matter ASAP. Sorry for any inconvience. If you me, you can call me @229.890.0927. Thank you and I’ll be looking fof the credit on my card.
    Thank You, Vicki

    • Mike

I don’t normally respond to comments on theses type of posts. I wrote about this with the hope that I might prevent a few poor souls from being infected with this trash.

I do not work for this company and CANNOT help you with a refund. I encourage you to call your credit card company or bank and report a purchase that did not live up to your expectations. This software is junk.

    • Candiedbug

Are you for real? Or just trolling?

    • Zach campain

im sorry vicki but Mycleampc is a scam. idk if you can get your money back, just remember to look up a review on anything you download to your computer next time

  • Sjoephil

    It Works Great!

    • joe momma

How long have you worked for them?

  • Sharese

I about to download onto my computer but my computer said this type of file is dangerous. I google reviews for it, and I see this! And to think I was gonna download it!

    • NarutoFan

It says that it’s “dangerous” is because it’s an .exe file. They say that to any .exe files lol. Even an antivirous software installation is an .exe file and was supposedly “dangerous”. As to mycleanpc… I do think it’s a scam though.

i knew it was a scam while watching the commercial when it claimed that one’s email being slow is based on viruses on your computer, when in fact, its based on your internet connection.

  • Marie

dang, why would they show it even on T.V as a lie? ugh this world is crazy. I was about to download it but ive already seen a bunch of people saying it isnt what we think it is
